Get Paid to Write Blog Posts is the first in a series of blog posts about the types of freelance writing that one can do online. This series aims to help new freelance writers in their decision of picking the type of writing that they will like to do.
What is a Blog Post?
I want to go out on a limb to assume that every adult on the internet knows what a blog post is (you’re currently reading one!), but in case you didn’t know, a blog post is a piece of writing (content) that is published on a website or blog.
It’s the big brother of a tweet, a Facebook status update, or an Instagram caption.
The same way that we all tweet for different reasons, people blog for different reasons. Blogs (and blog posts) can be for personal, entertainment, educational, or informational reasons. You can have a blog just to keep your family and friends updated about your life in a new city, or you can be a multi-million Dollar Business using blog posts to educate and inform your customers.
How Do You Get Paid to Write Blog Posts?
I have mentioned that blogs can be for personal and professional reasons. In this blog post, we are focusing on professional blog posts as a way for freelance writers to make money.
You see, when a Company/Business has a blog on their website, they need to publish blog posts on it, and to do that, they need writers to write these posts for them.
Now, some Companies have in-house writers that are full-time employees, but many more Companies choose to outsource their blog post writing to freelance writers.
Which means that you as a writer can get paid to write blog posts for these Companies.
My general rule of thumb is that if a Business/Company has a website, then they have a need for writers. Your job as a freelance writer is to offer your service in a way that they will not be able to refuse.
Before doing that though, you want to be sure of one thing: that the business that you want to write for is in a niche that you are good at. Read this to know more about freelance writing niches if you didn’t know already.
After writing for quite a while, these are my simplest three steps if you want to get paid to write blog posts:
- Decide the niche that you want to write for (personal finance, parenting, technology, etc.)
- Research as many businesses as you can in your chosen niche(s). I’d say start with a list of 50 businesses.
- Check out their websites and blog pages to get familiar with their style
- Find your best contact in the Company
- Pitch your service as a blog post writer
Don’t skip any of these five steps, because they are all important to your bottom line if you want to get paid to write blog posts.
I say that you should start with a large number of businesses because this is a numbers game. Not every business in your niche will need a writer immediately, and some may not even reply your email no matter how persistent you are. So, the more prospects you can gather, the higher your chances of finding the right ones to work with.
